My first baby is due on 4th September and we are all very excited. We lost my dad very suddenly back in early December and must have conceived a week later - so it's true when they say as soon as one life ends, another one begins. This baby is therefore very special not only for myself and my husband, but for my mum as well, for whom this couldn't have come at a better time and gives her something to focus on and look forward to. We found out I was pregnant on New Year's Eve so it really did signify a fresh start for us all! Mum was of course overjoyed but we made her wait an agonising 3 months before she could spill the beans to all her friends, and anyone in the street who cared to listen! No sooner were the 3 months up, she was on the phone, frantically letter writing and even on the Internet ordering me my Blooming Marvellous catalogue! She has even started knitting, but has promised not to knit me any giant booties that she knitted for my brother's first born (that still don't fit him now he's nearly 4!) My mum has never needed much of an excuse to spoil me, but now of course she is spoiling me more than ever and lovingly baking anything my contrary appetite fancies! She has also offered to care for the baby when I go back to work. So if I win this competition, I would love to take my mum away and treat her to some well-deserved pampering. Caroline Berry, Sutton.
